Press Release Body = Shermain Jeremy was one of the 12 awardees at last Sunday night's 4th Annual Underground Music Awards held at the world renowned BB Kings in Times Square New York. Shermain walked away with the Most Promising Female Singer of the Year Award and was nominated along with four other independent artists from of the New York area.
No stranger to the world stage, Shermain has wooed audiences across the globe with her superb image and sultry voice. Shermain credits her win to the rising popularity of her debut single "I Came to Show You" which has had almost 8000 hits in the last two months on myspace.com, the largest networking website in the world. Shermain believes that this award proves that there is an audience for independent artists even those from the Caribbean.
Hosted by Mad Linx of BET's Rap City, the awards show was organized by Urban Threshold, a multi-faceted company that caters to the urban community through music, fashion and entertainment. Special guest appearances included renowned producer Crucial Keys, M.O.P., Papoose and Russell Simmons Music Group Recording/Def Jam recording artists Black Buddafly.
The show honors those artists and producers who have made a significant impact over the past year and have contributed specifically to the development of the Underground/independent music arena. The nominees were posted online for two months, giving fans the opportunity to vote for their favorites.
Shermain's win came as a surprise, but the budding artist says, "I feel very honored to have won this award. It shows that my music and style is appreciated by my fans and I would like to thank them particularly for voting for me. This award is testimony that I am being recognized as a true artist."
